How Compounding Frequency Affects Total Annual Yield

Interest rates are generally quoted as an Annual Percentage Rate (APR). However, the actual interest earned depends heavily on compounding frequency—whether interest calculates annually, monthly, or daily.

APY vs. APR

Annual Percentage Yield (APY) reflects the true annual return taking compounding into account. As calculation intervals become more frequent, interest is added to the balance faster, slightly increasing the effective annual return.

Frequency Realities

While daily compounding yields higher returns than annual compounding, the underlying rate of return and total timeframe remain far more influential factors in long-term wealth accumulation.
